Sydney Olympic Park Concept Plan

TCA-Sydney-olympic-park-concept-000

Location: Homebush, NSW
Date Completed: 2001
Collaboration: Mark Gerada, Adam Russell

Following the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, the NSW State Government pursued ideas that could demonstrate how the site might develop in the post-Olympic era. TCA was selected with three other architectural practices to prepare individual post-Olympic concept plans, over a four week period. We proposed that the existing sports-driven urban core could be intensively developed into a vibrant precinct with residential, office, cultural and leisure uses integrated across the site. The proposal suggested a 20 year implementation period of buildings of low scale, to promote the creation of civic space and an agenda of sustainability. The new built form was intended to infiltrate the vast open spaces of the park and create a new urban diagram characterized by a mix of new pedestrian friendly streets, lanes and open public spaces.
