Understanding the metabolic pathways of Phase I and Phase II thoroughly aids in designing structural modifications that enhance the metabolic stability and extend the half-lives of bioactive compounds. Emphasis in clinical translation is placed on showcasing improved efficacy and reduced adverse effects compared to conventional formulations (Nagarajan et al. 2025).

This research will investigate how these technologies can improve the scientific assessment (formulation), and distribution of herbal medicines, thus opening doors for innovative and effective plant-based therapies. Since the dawn of civilization — humans have depended on herbal medicines for health care and the treatment of various ailments. Significant obstacles in global regulation are highlighted in the study (stemming from diverse national policies), which jeopardize biodiversity and lead to consumer misconceptions regarding the safety of herbal medicines.

Besides interacting with CYP450 enzymes or P-glycoprotein transporters — herbal preparations can also directly engage with other therapeutic agents. The current status of clinical trials for curcumin is relatively favorable — yet the positive impacts observed in the preclinical phase remain unverified.
