This extension to an existing modest brick Federation semi-detached dwelling sought to maximise connection to its environment and create a sense of generosity within its constrained 4.6 metre wide plan.
The new extension is arranged over three levels to take advantage of three essentially different views: the lower level addresses an intimate landscaped courtyard, the mid-level to a quintessential Sydney Harbour outlook over lush greenery and Federation rooftops, whilst the upper level provides a lofty, dis-connected view out to the Harbour and ocean.
The dwelling was carefully detailed to borrow space, light and ventilation within its constrained situation. A stack of outdoor spaces on each level were designed to control solar access and provide covered outdoor living spaces so necessary in Sydney’s warm and humid climate.
