Following a short conceptual study prepared in 2001, TCA was commissioned to undertake a more comprehensive vision plan focusing on the urban core area of Sydney Olympic Park.
A series of workshops with stakeholders were held to develop the brief, resulting in an urban plan that proposes an additional 1,700,000 sq.m. of mixed use space for the core area over the next 20 years.
The site will continue to have key focus on sport and sport related activity, but will be augmented by living, recreation, cultural and working environments. The Olympic Boulevard will remain as the key armature element of the urban plan, with a strong dense edge of mixed use buildings including towers along its eastern edge. The western side will see a series of more intimately scaled, linked organic public spaces allied to the chain of venues along its length. Improved connections to surrounding communities and the extensive Millenium Parklands are a key part of the Vision Plan. A finer grain of public domain will be introduced, transforming this vastly scaled place into a pedestrian friendly neighbourhood with a vibrant town centre planned around the existing railway station.
